Frequently Asked Questions

Remarketing (also called retargeting) is a form of online advertising where companies track your visit to their website using an invisible pixel, then follow you around the internet with personalised ads. When you browse a product on Amazon and then see ads for that exact product on Facebook, Gmail or YouTube โ€” that's remarketing in action. Learn more about how it works โ†’

Yes, scanning is completely safe. Our tool fetches the website's publicly accessible HTML source via a neutral CORS proxy โ€” the same as a search engine crawler would do. The website cannot distinguish our scan from a normal browser request, and we never execute any JavaScript from the scanned page. Your scan data is never stored on our servers.

Websites track visitors for several reasons: to measure how many people visit (analytics), to understand user behaviour and improve their product (product analytics), and to show targeted ads to people who have already shown interest in their brand (advertising/remarketing). Tracking is big business โ€” retargeted ads typically have much higher conversion rates, making these pixels extremely valuable to online advertisers.

Absolutely. Browser extensions like uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger and Ghostery block the vast majority of tracking scripts before they even load. Switching to Firefox or Brave browser also dramatically reduces tracking by default. Read our full guide on blocking trackers โ†’

Our scanner reads the static HTML source of the page. Some websites load tracking scripts dynamically via JavaScript after the initial page load, or inject them only after a user interaction (like scrolling or clicking). These dynamically loaded trackers won't appear in the initial HTML and therefore can't be detected by our scanner. A browser extension like uBlock Origin provides more comprehensive real-time blocking.
